    Orioles 7, Royals 5

Brian Roberts homered, Ramon Hernandez and Adam Jones had two RBIs apiece, and the Baltimore Orioles rebounded from two straight frustrating losses by beating the Kansas City Royals 7-5 on Tuesday night.

Aubrey Huff had two hits and drove in a run for the Orioles, who built enough of a lead to make it easy on closer George Sherrill.

After yielding late-inning homers Sunday and Monday, Sherrill entered with two on, one out and Baltimore up 7-3.

We don’t grade on a curve, and that’s why only the Rays get an A-plus while three teams are given Fs.

    Royals complete comeback in 11th

Miguel Olivo homered off George Sherrill with two outs in the ninth to force extra innings, and Jose Guillen singled in the tiebreaking run in the 11th to give Kansas City a 6-5 comeback victory over Baltimore on Monday night.

The Royals rallied from a four-run deficit to win their sixth straight on the road, the team’s longest run since 1999. The victory also ended Kansas City’s seven-game losing streak at Camden Yards.

Mike Aviles led off the 11th with an infield hit off Chad Bradford (3-3).

    Royals 6, Orioles 5(11)

The scouting report said Miguel Olivo has difficulty hitting breaking balls, so George Sherrill tried to seal a victory for the Baltimore Orioles by throwing a slider with two outs in the ninth inning.

The strategy was sound. The pitch was not.

    Again.

Streaky Royals are hard for fans to figure

They opened the season by sweeping the Tigers in Detroit and long-suffering fans sat slack-jawed, wondering if the Kansas City Royals finally had turned the corner.

But the first half of the season was a roller coaster ride for the Royals faithful: a seven-game losing streak, a five-game win streak, a 12-game losing streak, then an 11-1 stretch that included a three-game sweep of the Cardinals at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

LaRue drives in four runs in St. Louis win over KC (AP)

St. Louis Cardinals' Adam Kennedy (7) is tagged out by Kansas City Royals second baseman Mark Grudzielanek as he tries to steal second in the the ninth inning of a baseball game Sunday, June 29, 2008, in Kansas City, Mo. The Cardinals won 9-6.

The sun, the wind, and Jason LaRue’s stocky body proved too much for Kansas City to overcome. The backup catcher started his day by holding onto the ball in the first inning when David DeJesus came crashing into him trying to score. DeJesus, leading the majors with a .463 average with runners in scoring position, had to leave the game.
