Infielder Alex S. Gonzalez agreed Friday to a a minor league contract with the Kansas City Royals, who invited the 13-year major league veteran to spring training.
The 33-year-old started his career with the Toronto Blue Jays, then spent three years with the Chicago Cubs before going to four other teams. He was placed on the voluntarily retired list in May with the Phillies, then was reinstated and became a free agent in November.
